چکیده

High-Q optical Fano resonances realized in a variety of plasmonic nanostructures and metamaterials are very much promising for the development of new potent photonic devices, such as optical sensors and switches. One of the key issues in the development is to establish ways to effectively modulate the Fano resonance by external perturbations. Dynamic tuning of the Fano resonance applying the mechanical stress and electric fields has already been demonstrated. Here, we demonstrate another way of tuning, i.e., photo-tuning of the Fano resonance. We use a simple metal-dielectric multilayer structure that exhibits a sharp Fano resonance originating from coupling between a surface plasmon polariton mode and a planar waveguide mode. Using a dielectric waveguide doped with azo dye molecules that undergo photoisomerization, we succeeded in shifting the Fano resonance thorough photo-modulation of the propagation constant of the waveguide mode. The present work demonstrates the feasibility of photo-tuning of the Fano resonance and opens a new avenue towards potential applications of the Fano resonance.

Fast Tuning of Double Fano Resonance Using A Phase-Change Metamaterial Under Low Power Intensity

In this work, we numerically demonstrate an all-optical tunable Fano resonance in a fishnet metamaterial(MM) based on a metal/phase-change material(PCM)/metal multilayer. We show that the displacement of the elliptical nanoholes from their centers can split the single Fano resonance (FR) into a double FR, exhibiting higher quality factors. The tri-layer fishnet MMs with broken symmetry accompli...

Tunable Fano resonance in symmetric multilayered gold nanoshells.

We have studied the evolution of dipole-dipole all-plasmonic Fano resonances (FRs) in symmetric multilayered nanoshells as a function of their geometrical parameters. We demonstrate that symmetry breaking is not mandatory for controlling the Fano resonance in such multilayer structures. By carefully selecting the geometrical parameters, the position of the FR can be tuned between 600 and 950 nm...

Full controlling of Fano resonances in metal-slit superlattice

Controlling of the lineshape of Fano resonance attracts much attention recently due to its wide capabilities for lasing, biosensing, slow-light applications and so on. However, the controllable Fano resonance always requires stringent alignment of complex symmetry-breaking structures and thus the manipulation could only be performed with limited degrees of freedom and narrow tuning range. Furth...

Nanoimprinted Hybrid Metal-Semiconductor Plasmonic Multilayers with Controlled Surface Nano Architecture for Applications in NIR Detectors

We present a proof of concept for tunable plasmon resonance frequencies in a core shell nano-architectured hybrid metal-semiconductor multilayer structure, with Ag as the active shell and ITO as the dielectric modulation media. Our method relies on the collective change in the dielectric function within the metal semiconductor interface to control the surface. Here we report fabrication and opt...
